During the 1985 Formula 1 season McLaren and Williams were the 'teams to beat'. Lotus was the 4th team and unfortunately no longer had the speed and charm that it had in the successful 60s and 70s. Yet the 1985 season was different because they had recruited a young driver who had in 1984 his debut with Toleman.
During his first season, Ayrton Senna often competed with the top cars. He even succeeded in winning his first victory at the Estoril circuit. Later that season, he also won the GP of Belgium at Spa-Francorchamps. This victory at SPA was his first of a total of 5 wins on this circuit.
