Description
The Porsche 917 is an 'iconic racer' with victories at LeMans in '70 and '71. The design was very progressive for the time because of its aluminium tubular frame weighing only 50 Kg. For propulsion, Porsche had chosen to couple two 911 engines. This resulted in a 4.5-litre V12 engine with a total of 520 hp. Drivers loved the 917 and the 'long tail' in particular managed to break many speed records. Gijs van Lennep's 1971 record at LeMans is a fine example.
