After the death of Ayrton Senna, Damon Hill had to take lead within the Williams team to battle with the Benneton of Michael Schumacher. The 1994 season was a difficult one for Hill and soon he seemed to have no chance for winning the title. After a heroic rain race on the Japanese circuit of Suzuka, the title fight was again completely open and had to be decided on Australian ground.
The fight ended with an accident that meant the end for both Hill and Schumacher. Only 2 years later, Hill was able to secure the title with Williams, but he certainly stood up as a leader during the 1994 season.
